I think I'm going to switch Magician weapon use from "decreased die size" to "Magicians have Disadvantage on weapon damage rolls."

    I might make d4 weapons natively D6/Disadvantage (making Magicians as damaging with daggers and slings as anybody)

    I like the variable damage with level idea and combining it with advantage/disadvantage for smaller or larger weapons.

    I'd also extend that to small creatures get disadvantage with natural weapon damage and large creatures get advantage.  That makes bears really fucking nasty.

    Not that Krul or Inner Sea has a bear problem.
