Session Report - Swords of the Inner Sea, Session 8
Soon restless after their recent adventures, ROBARD THE THIRD (Dennis Higgins), URSA THE MUSTACHIOED (Zzarchov Kowolski), and ZHONN THE NOMAD (C Huth) set out with the bandit KOJATA to plunder the ANCIENT TOMB in the dunes northwest of ZURENTH ZAN. Enlisting the services of the Amazon ZBERALE and the torchbearer GARUN, they followed the path the WHITE RIVER, heeding the warnings of the farmers along the way that a SAND GIANT had been seen wandering the dunes.
Riding his horse to the top of a ridge, Robard sighted both the giant and the tomb entrance, and led the group safely to the entrance. Leaving their animals in the tomb's antechamber with the Amazon, they explored north of the stone piers, finding a chamber with murals depicting dog sacrifices outside a large set of bronze-embellished double doors. Fighting off several INVISIBLE HOUNDS, they crossed the threshold to find a great statue of some ANCIENT DEITY of a sinister, avian aspect. They resisted the temptaion to plunder the six topaz stones set into the statue's forehead, and moved on westward.
Next they found a shallow pool beyond which were three large celadon jars beneath murals showing bees pollinating flowers and stinging a child to death. Cautiously they removed two of the jars, but as Zhonn was hauling out the third, the seal of its lid burst, and a tiny dead hand burst out from it to claw at him. Zhonn flipped the jar onto the floor, trying to trap the creature within, but some drug in the honey seeped into his skin, causing him to see and hear frightful hallucinations, and in the chaos, a HONEY-COATED UNDEAD CHILD crawled out and bit and clawed at him fiercely. Robard rushed back into the room to save him, but in vain, as Zhonn toppled over, hitting his head against the stone and falling into unconsciousness, allowing the creature to easily tear out his throad. Robard slew the feasting thing and bore his comrade's body out into the light.
The adventurers loaded the spoils of their expedition - and their friend's mortal form onto Ursa's buffalo and set back for home. Passing - and warning - another party of warriors of the giant wandering the hills, they returned to GIKHUN TAM.
