SESSION REPORT - SWORDS OF THE INNER SEA, SESSION 21

SESSION REPORT - SWORDS OF THE INNER SEA, SESSION 21

Wary of braving the desert in small numbers, but still eager for adventure, THE HERMIT RINPOCHE, WEND WITHER THE SORCERER, JUKKAR THE STARRY-EYED, along with FOLG SON OF FOLG and the cannibal MINO headed to the city harbor to investigate a wave of disappearances. Questioning the drunkard BADDA, they learned that he saw a group of shadowy figures emerge from the water and abduct several young women in a secluded bend of the PEARL RIVER where he often secretly watched them go to bathe and gather herbs. Rinpoche constructed a blind of reeds and they lay in wait for the abuctors. When at first a band of women came, the three magicians and their companions were spotted and after an argument, the women returned to town. Undeterred, the party returned to their blind and, when, later at night another group of women came, the dark figures of several UTTUNESE RAIDERS burst from the water with great knives to capture them. The adventurers raced from their blind, and Jukkar conjured a great wave of water, knocking most of the raiders and prey alike prone into the water. As Folg and Mino rushed down to engage them, suddenly an ENORMOUS EEL broke the surface of the water and bit down on the lead raider, slaying him in one ravenous bite. In a panic, the rest of the raiders scrambled to shore, and while most fled upriver, Wend Wither delayed one long enough with thrown bolas for Folg to wrestle him into submission. Wend Wither having summoned a great peal of thunder, several of the PRINCE'S SOLDIERS arrived on the scene and took the defiant captive into custody awaiting a public execution on the morning.

The following day, they decided to confront the TORMENTED GHOST rumored to be haunting the royal cemetery. Waiting diligently until midnight with the gravetender CHATTA among a stand of trees, they saw the terrible vision of the dead tyrant NAR BARBANDENA BIRDA, tattered and bleeding, stalking and moaning among the monuments. Jukkar met the ghost eye to eye, and agreet to listen to his story of woe. They last listening through the dark hours as the ghost related, in excruciating detail, his life of betrayal and cruelty leading to his death at the hands of his daughter, the WARRIOR-PRINCESS THUSA, after which his body was fed to dogs, and the dogs driven from the city, themselves killed, burned, and their ashes scattered to the four winds. The ghost extracted from Jukkar a vow to witness him to his ancestors in the realm of the dead, and then disappeared in hellish light as the dawn came. Jukkar and his companions spoke to a priestess at a shrine of Princess Thusa and then attempted a seance at the grave of Nar Barbandena Birda's grandfather to no avail. Needing more information, Rinpoche elicited an audience with the royal physician AUNAR NUN and, under the promise of a mystic oath not to disclose what he had learned, consulted certain scrolls related to the history of the ghost's family line. Still unsure how to proceed, they returned variously to the barracks and the wine-house to consider their next expedition.
