SESSION REPORT - SWORDS OF THE INNER SEA, SESSION 24

SESSION REPORT - SWORDS OF THE INNER SEA, SESSION 24

In search of further plunder from the crumbling ruins of the TOWER OF DUST, the barbarian ROBARD THE THIRD, MAZDAK THE GRIM, FOLG SON OF FOLG, ONUDILE THE HORSEMAN, the mystic JUKKAR THE STARRY-EYED, the sorcerer WEND WITHER, THE HERMIT RINPOCHE and NISH NAR'HA (himself a hermit) set out into the parched dunes north of GUNN LATTH.

Leaving the cannibal MINO to guard their mounts, the nimble MAZDAK scaled the outer wall of the main complex of buildings, cannily avoiding a patrol of SWORD-WIELDING BABOONS and a TWO-HEADED DOG. Entering the high-roofed center structure, inscribed with entreaties to XAXTAY, a divine (or demonic) figure of the lonely desert and secret knowledge, they found a gated shrine protecting a GREAT DARK STATUE depicting a THREE-HEADED, SERPENT-TAILED DOG. The walls of the chamber were decorated with murals of figures going about various tasks, the pigment of the figured flaking away to render them dessicated or skeletal in appearance. Noting a corridor to the north depicting a procession of increasingly deathly figures making a series of ritual gestures, they instead opted to head east. Robard burst open the door quickly, hoping to surprise the a figure he had heard beyond, and was attacked by a GREAT ROBED BABOON, biting viciously at him. After a flurry of blades and teeth, Nish Nar'ha struck the beast with a ray of arcane fire, leaving it dead with tongues of dying flame flickering from its burned sockets. In the following chamber, they found a spiral path inscribed into the floor, and an array of dead crawling skeletons. Within a subchamber in the corner, they found an ancient GILDED SEAT and a GOLDEN AMULET. They arranged the corpse of tbe baboon, stripped of its robes, on the seat, and closing it within, awaited some change to transpire, but to no avail. Sliding the corpse into the POOL OF ANTI-WATER outside, they watched it crumble to dust, and having collected some of the fluid, made for the crypt building to the north.

As Jukkar collected golden wire from one of the crypts, Masdak noticed a growth of RUST-COLORED SPORES on another of the coffins. Nish Nar'hra summoned a pocket of clean air to displace the spores and as Robard collected a great gem, in the next chamber, Madzak and Folg did battle with a DESSICATED UNDEAD CORPSE, which with the application of Wend Wither's mystical serpents and Mazdak's enchanted blade, was dispatched, allowign them to claim the head and tip of a GOLDEN TRIPLE-HOUND STAFF. After slaying an interrupting band of baboons, they returned to the central building, reassebled the staff with the shaft of a spear, and met the cruel gaze of the statue with that of the staff. There was no effect, but as they conducted their test, they were assaulted by another band of six baboons. After defeating them with a burst of stone from Jukkar and a flurry of swords from Robard and Folg, they then lay in wait for the outside patrol, and after frightening away their hound with Rinpoche's magic, they slew these guardians and, after using magic to bring slumber onto the FLESH-EATING BIRDS in one of the nearby trees, they captured then in a sack, scaled the wall, and made their way back toward the city. Stopping to inquire with AREL, a nearby farmer, about the MYSTERIOUS LAKE south of the dunes, they returned home to count their spoils.

  1. It's a separate Int-based downtime action that a magician can take once per week, Sorcerers I believe get a bonus.
