SESSION REPORT - SWORDS OF THE INNER SEA, SESSION 35

On the request of the Royal Physician AUNAR NUN, the cunning Professional Adventurer FOLG SON OF FOLG, under the cover of a heavy rain conjured by the sorcerer WEND WITHER, slipped stealthily into the house of the fierce KARUMAKKA. Quickly extracting the CURSED DOG SKULL SCULPTURE from beneath his bed, he realized too late that a trail of rainwater stood as evidence of his presence. Thinking quickly, and perhaps avariciously, he quickly thought to disguise his mission as a robbery, and began collecting any valuables in sight. Before long, as he was filling his loot-sack, he hear the click of a key in the door, and looking to direct the furious Karumakka's rage against a more expedient target, he plunged an UTTUNESE ARROW into one of the lord's pillows, and quickly he was atop the roof just as he hear a woman's scream behind him. Dashing down the far side of the window, he was chased by several WARRIORS, but, hooded, cloak flying, he leapt over the wall of the estate, and was soon off to rendezvous with his ccompanions THAUGOS and THE HERMIT RINPOCHE, divested himself of his disguise, and made his way to the docks, where he purchased a MYSTERIOUS RING. Rinpoche then made his way to meet with Aunar Nun after his having 'cured' Karumakka's sleeplessness, to find the physician less than pleased with the elaborations to the infiltration.

Later, as the warrior MAZDAK THE GRIM returned from patrolling the farmlands for bandit activity, he met with Aunar Nun as well, finding him more resigned, and, gathering his companions PHERMOPOLIS and NILT-SIAR, as well as the scout PUNGA, set out across the river to seek the BURIED CITADEL. During the trek through the jungle, as they camped by a stand of twisted trees, Phermopolis's watch was interrupted by a HOWLING DESSICATED CORPSE leaping fiercely from the night. After a quick battle it was dispatched, and they followed its trail back to an ominous hollow tree in the base of which Phermopolis found a glittering gem.

Reaching the citadel, Mazdak, himself the recipient of no less than four funerals, crawled through the aperture at the peak of the FUNEREAL MONUMENT within the outside wall, and then led the group through the tower entrance. Breaching the stone door within, they were met with an intense acrid smell coming from an unknown source. Following his SWAMP CAT on a leash, they passed through the eerie red corridors of the citadel, passing several brazen doors, to find the cat scratching and pawing at a carving in the wall of three mysterious figures of antique costume, and determined it to conceal a secret passage, but could find no obvious means to open it. They turned the corner, and found themselves faced with a GHOSTLY FIGURE SHROUDED IN MIST that not everyone was able to see. It attacked with ghostly claws, seemed impervious to many blows, and seemed to issue commands in an unknown language to Thaugos. When spell and mystic sword had finally dispersed it, and comign to the end of the corridor, they decided to lead the cat back toward the entrance to find an alternate route to whatever deeper portion of the citadel it seemingly wanted to find. Rounding the corner, they were then ambushed by a pair of TINY SHRUNKEN MEN with needle-like, envemomed claws. Mazdak, alert to the ambush, quickly swatted away one, but the other leapt cricketlike onto Rinpoche, tearing at the hermit's chest and nearly killing him before he was knocked away and impaled on the end of Phermopolis' bone-pointed spear. They continued and were met by a PITCH-BLACK CAT with eerie glowing eyes, and while Wend Wither was able to abjure it momentarily with the power of his CAT AND TOAD STAFF, already limping from the poison of the shrunken men and wary of yet another ambush, returned to the surface.

While the others prepared camp, Folg, following the instructions of the girl who has sold him the ring, scaled alone to the top of the tower, stripped down, and put on the ring, but felt only the desperate yearning for a place yet higher to meet the light of the moon, and so returned to the party. Leavign this eerie place, they attempted to sell the treasures looted from Karumakka's house in Occupied UTTUN, but the cruel IMPERIAL SOLDIERS only mocked Thaugos, and refused him entry. Their return offered them little rest as well, as in the depth of the jungle they met and slew a band of IBOSA's fierce raiders before finally returning to the savannah. Resting for a night back in GUNN LATTH, they took WRESI's boat to RIN LOTU, sold their goods, and returned home to a well-earned rest.
