SESSION REPORT - SWORDS OF THE INNER SEA, SESSION 34

SESSION REPORT - SWORDS OF THE INNER SEA, SESSION 34

After interviewing the young nobleman BAHAÏN on them matter of the BLIND DEMON who slew his father and entourage, and then consulting with the Royal Physican AUNAR NUN on the health of KARUMAKKA, the Warriors MAZDAK THE GRIM, FOLG SON OF FOLG, and PHERMOPOLIS, along with the sorcerers NILT-SIAR AND WEND WITHER, having acquired an OLD BRONZE ARMBAND from a TAHUNI WANDERER, visited the Palace cemetery in hopes of laying to rest the shade of the tyrant king NAR BARBANDENA BIRDA. Though the frightful ghost promised to visit a TERRIBLE VENGEANCE upon Mazdak for a few ill-chosen words, once the armband was given a discreet burial by the gravetender CHATTA, the ghost appeared no more, nor did yet a third false funeral for the grim warrior (with increasingly perfunctory mourning on the part of the AMAZONS) afford any further visions of his ancestors. They were thanked and rewarded for their deeds by PRINCE SARUN, and then they made haste to the wine-house. After a shaky negotiation with the scribe IROYO, they decided it best not to alter the letter they had received from BARUNNIN OF UTTUN, and instead joined forces with the warrior PUNGA and set out for the BURIED CITADEL beyond the PEARL RIVER. After a long journey - including a close call with a gang of UNSPEAKING ZOMBIES treading throught the jungle, they found themselves at the edge of the citadel clearing, and weighed their plan for dealing with the UTTUNESE WARRIORS occupying the citadel.

Soon, Nilt-Siar had beguiled the will of one of the warriors, ALI, and sent him to convince his commander, SIMUS, that he had just spotted a band of ZAGUR's raiders. The party stalked the uttunese band, and after a fierce battle with Simus, whose cruel bone spear nearly slew Mazdak were it not for his helmet, emerged victorious. They slipped into the uttunese camp, and dispatching the few mysteriously-blinded uttunese waiting there - and claiming their war chest - took command of the watchtowers and awaited the return of the last uttunese patrol. A lone UTTUNESE SCOUT was the first to appear, and Phermopolis slew him as he tried to climb the watchtower's ladder, and in the night a curious CROCODILE made a meal of his fallen body. No more Uttunese appeared that night, so when the morning came, they breached the main door of the ruins. After cautiously avoiding a mosaic of a yawning-mouthed face in the floor, they were confronted with a seemingly barred stone door upon which perched a blind, deathly toad. It croaked out a riddle in some unknown tongue, and, unsure how to proceed and wanting to return with the spoils of war, they set out into the jungle.

The trip back was a difficult one, as their first night's rest was interrupted by MUD CREATURES slithering in from the darkness, and the second by a LEOPARD that burst from the night to claw at wend wither, before the sorcerer tamed its ferocity with a potent spell. Once again crossing a strange PROCESSION OF SERPENTS in the jungle, and making the acquantance of the merchant EPPUR on the Savannah, they made their way back to GUNN LATTH in time for Folg and Mazdak to meet with PRINCE GANDUNA, who inquired after the well-being of his estranged brother JIDDAL and was quickly charmed by the young princesses YEKA and YEMLA. The meeting ended when Ganduna took poorly to Folg's offer to train the girls in the arts of war, and, taking their leave, Mazdak paid a visit to the wine-house, where he drank late in the night, hoping to build bridges with the irascible warrior Punga.
